FAST Breast MRI gives additional peace of mind to patients at average to intermediate risk of breast cancer

FAST Breast MRI (also known as Abbreviated Breast MRI) is a valuable supplemental screening exam for patients at average to intermediate risk of developing breast cancer, significantly improving the ability to find cancers in early stages when they are easier to treat.

Research has shown that FAST Breast MRI – a shortened version of full protocol breast MRI requiring less than 8 minutes in the scanner – detected cancer in an additional 15.5 cases out of every 1,000 women screened, on top of those already detected with 3D screening mammography.

FAST Breast MRI does not replace an annual screening mammogram, which is the recommended standard of care for women 40 and older. Full protocol breast MRI is recommended for women at high risk for breast cancer.

“Based on the published and emerging data, FAST Breast MRI will save lives and contribute to the peace of mind that comes with pursuing state-of-the-art screening techniques for the early detection of breast cancer,” said Ingrid L. Ott, M.D., Director of Breast MRI at Washington Radiology.

Washington Radiology is proud to have been the first radiology practice in the Washington, D.C., area to offer FAST Breast MRI. With advanced technology and an expert team of radiologists and technologists, we continue to lead the way in specialized imaging care.
